Growing up, my father took his chilli very seriously– whether it be chopped, paste or even bottled; there’s no doubt it will be present in every dish.
In a way, I have him to thank for holding my spice well. But nothing… nothing has prepared me for the spicy punch that comes with KL Traditional Chilli Ban Mee from McPherson!
Signature Chilli Ban Mee ($7)
First off, the chilli is an absolute tongue killer. Don’t be fooled by the minute chilli flakes, as they are sure to make you sweat in your eyes by the end of your meal. Thankfully, you can always fall back on starchy QQ noodles. However, they tend to stick together in the takeaway box.
I recommend drizzling some of the complimentary soup into the bowl, breaking the egg and mixing it all together to loosen it up. The Ikan Bilis are crunchy, and the meat porkballs are flavourful, making for a heavy-duty combo.
Personally, I’m impressed with the Prawn Dumplings (6pc, $7) as it still retains its crispiness after delivery, and the prawn filling is packed with flavour and freshness.
Overall, I give KL Traditional Chilli Ban Mee the following rating:
